Soul Patronage
Feeding a new future
What is patronage?
Historically, a patron of the arts was an individual or organization that provided support, encouragement, privilege, and/or financial aid to an artist, healer, scientist, or visionary.
The English word patron comes from the Latin patronus, meaning protector of clients or dependents.
A patron was responsible for the creation of works of art by commissioning, guiding, and supporting an artist from inception to successful completion.
The deeply creative and transformative Renaissance Period was fueled by Patrons.
My vision for Soul Patronage
A sacred relationship between an artist, healer, or visionary and an individual or organization who believes in and wishes to support the development and fruition of the artist’s unique gifts in service to life on earth.
Who are the people involved in a Soul Patronage?
Soul Patron
An individual, family, or organization that wishes to invest in potent and effective ways to support more beautiful and sustainable ways of living. Ideal patrons are likely outside-the-box thinkers looking for new, more satisfying ways to contribute to the world and have an impact.
Examples:
A retired individual or couple who feel less enthusiastic about their philanthropic giving. Who long for a more intimate, personal way to contribute.
A young adult who has inherited generational wealth, but has little to no interest in their parent’s version of philanthropy. Someone who longs to be more than just a piggy bank. Who wants to be involved in the process.
An organization that dreams of digging deeper roots into their communities by sponsoring work that allows for healthier, happier people with better access to fulfilling their dreams.
Artist, Healer, Visionary
Creative people who hold beautiful dreams and visions of a better world. People who are deeply connected to the unworkability in our modern systems and long for new ways of living, working, and relating in harmony with each other, as well as the more-than-human world.
Examples:
Author who writes mythical stories that contextualize our modern life in ways that inspire deep thinking and dreaming of a better life and world.
Bodyworker who weaves soul and spirit into healing work, creating space for each client’s light to shine brighter through their own work.
Community Organizer who longs to build rich, regenerative communities in their home town by creating events, classes, concerts, dances and many other ways that build relationship and resilience among neighbors.
Mentor/Guide
A gifted guide to facilitate the process of connecting a Patron and Artist, as well as providing a container and guidance for the Artist’s development and work to thrive.
Why is this needed?
Revolutionary ideas and visions don’t come into the world ready to generate profit and support for the individual birthing them.
Every human has come to this life with a soul deep longing to contribute and be of service in ways unique to them. Soul doesn’t speak in terms of profit and loss, target markets and unique value propositions. No, Soul speaks in dreams, visions, mysteries and myth.
Indigenous cultures around the world, including our own indigenous ancestors had cultural containers and practices to support each individual in discerning their soul gifts and translating them into valuable delivery methods in service of their people. These cultural containers and practices have degraded in western culture, opting instead to do things at scale, which requires individuals to be nurtured in a one-size-fits-all manner. With the expectation that once schooling is complete the individual must go forth and generate profit.
Though our human practices have changed, Soul has not.
Our world faces monumental challenges, never before confronted by the human race. The thinking and doing that has gotten us into these issues is not going to help us resolve them. We need insightful, creative, outside of the box thinking and action.
We need artists who dare to hold mirrors up to the most beautiful and ugliest aspects of ourselves. We need their reflections to question old ways of doing things, and reinforce our highest ideals.
We need powerful healers and new methodologies to help us release what no longer serves us and to powerfully step into our potential.
We need visionaries to dream bigger than ever, and pull their visions to the ground, where they can root and grow.
For any of this to be possible, we must create modern versions of the old ancestral cultural containers. Containers where new ideas and approaches have the time and space to root and grow.
This is the mission of the Soul Patron project.
How does it work?
My vision for this project takes place in two stages:
Stage 1
I am currently seeking my own Patron(s) to provide support as I build out a scalable model for others to utilize. The Soul Patronage project came to me in a vision, and it is my honor and privilege to bring it to life in a beautiful and sustainable way.
Here are a few ways I plan to approach this work
Work 1-on-1 with individual artists, healers, and visionaries to support their healing, growth, and powerful contributions to the world.
Create a year long group program to provide community and support for this work to flourish.
Write a book laying out this model and vision in a meaningful way
Create a podcast and other forms of content marketing to share this vision widely
Levels of Support
Full Financial Support
$80,000 per year for a “Thriving Wage” in my area, or
$160,000 per year for my wife and I to thrive and partner in this work
Cover our Costs
$54,000 for my yearly portion of our living expenses
$108,000 to cover all of our yearly living expenses
Sponsor my work through Client Scholarships
Support an artist, healer, or visionary in getting the support they need to flourish and bring their gifts to the world:
6 month package - up to $4,000, depending on how much each client can contribute
12 month package - up to $8,000, depending on how much each client can contribute
You can support 1 or more clients at a time.
I will work with you to find clients that embody the values and impact you’re looking for through your patronage.
Have something else in mind?
Please reach out with any ideas you may have!
Stage 2
Once I have a stable model for myself, I will work towards scaling this model to include more Mentors/Guides like myself, as well as more Soul Patrons and clients.
